8th Grade ~ Ms. Wilson

Welcome to the 8th grade! Our goal for this year is to focus on math by incorporation activities that will strength each student's knowledge, skills and prepare for the End-of-Grade Test.  We look forward to working with you and your child.  Please feel free to contact me by phone, letter or email if you have any questions or concerns.

1st Nine Weeks:

Exponents, Solving Equations, Rational & Irrational Numbers, Squares & Square Roots and Scientific Notation

Learning Outcomes
Perform operations with m=numbers expressed in scientific notation, including problems where both decimal and scientific notation are used.  Use scientific notation and choose units of appropriate size for measurements of very large or very small quantities.  Interpret scientific notation that has been generated by technology.

2nd Nine Weeks:

Pythagorean Theorem & Geometry

Learning Outcome:
Explain a proof of the Pythagorean Theorem and its converse. Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to determine unknown side lengths in right triangles in real world and mathematical problems in two and three dimensions.  Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to find the distance between two points in a coordinate system.

3rd Nine Weeks

Pythagorean Theorem & Geometry

Learning Outcomes:
Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving volume of cylinders, cones, and spheres.  Know the formulas for the volumes of cones, cylinders, and spheres and use them to solve real world and mathematical problems.

4th Nine Weeks:

Scatter plots, REVIEW, REVIEW, & REVIEW

Learning Outcomes:
